Club Night Information

‘Club Night’ is an enjoyable, informal race meet coordinated by the Waterworx Amateur Swimming Club.  It is held weekly, at the Waterworx Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre, 22A Commercial Drive, Springfield, on Tuesday evenings from 6.15pm during Terms 4 and 1 (excluding school holidays) and is designed to give children the opportunity to:

~      swim under race conditions;

~      monitor progress by achieving / recording ‘times’ for their events;

~      learn the rules of the various strokes, turns, finishes and swimming in general;

~      practice starting a race with a starters gun/light;

~      increase their confidence in the water.

It is important to note that, at each Club Night, children race to improve their times from the previous week/s.   Swimmers are placed in heats with other swimmers of similar ability and therefore will compete against swimmers of similar times, not necessarily the same age or gender.

Events swum at Club Nights are listed in the Club Night Program located the Club Noticeboard and on page 13.  Races in at least 3 of the 4 strokes will be held every regular Club Night.  Swimmers are able to participate in one race per event offered at the appropriate distance for their times (25m, 50m or 100m) (For example, if Backstroke is offered for 25m, 50m & 100m, they can only swim one of these distances based on their times).  Qualifying times must be achieved before swimmers are eligible to graduate to longer distances, unless they are competing at an upcoming swim meet that requires them to swim the longer distance.
