The Waterworx ASC Club Championships are held at the end of the swim season. The 2012 Club Championships will be held on 24 March 2012 commencing at 1.00pm followed by the End of Season BBQ and Trophy Presentation. [Note : this date is currently tentative - pending dates for the 2012 Queensland School State Swimming Championships, which will affect a number of our swimmers]
All swimmers are encouraged to participate in Club Nights and meet the criteria to be eligible to compete at the Club Championships:
Criteria: To be eligible to swim at the Club Championships a swimmer must have attended 60% of Club Nights since commencement of their membership and have previously swum the 100m/200m Freestyle and IM events (depending on their age group) at least twice during the season.
Note: This criteria also applies to senior swimmers (13 years & over) who wish to compete and be eligible for Age Champion recognition. However, we understand that for our senior swimmers regular attendance at Club Night may be difficult due to training and study requirements. For these swimmers ‘Participation’ events will be offered at the Club Championships – ‘participation’ events are not age or gender based and do not earn points, though are offered to ensure all Members have the opportunity to actively participate at the Club Championships.
Nomination Forms will be forwarded to all Members at least 4 weeks prior to the event. Entry costs $7.00 per swimmer and includes the program.
8 years & under 25m events in all 4 strokes – all events contribute to Age Champion points for
8 year olds.
Note: Swimmers aged 7 and under will not be eligible for Age Champion recognition as per SQ rules, however, they will all be recognised for participation. Participation medals will be presented on Club Championship Day.
9 & 10 year olds 50m events in all 4 strokes; 100m* Freestyle; 100m*Individual Medley – all events
contribute to Age Champion points. (* Provided they have previously swum these events at least twice at Club Night during the season).
11years & over 50m events in all 4 strokes; 200m* Freestyle; 200m*Individual Medley – all events
contribute to Age Champion points. (* Provided they have previously swum these events at least twice at Club Night during the season).
Participation events:100m events in all 4 strokes;
Participation events are offered to senior swimmers who have been unable to meet the criteria to compete in the above events. Participation events are not age or gender based and do not earn points.
~ Age for Club Championships is determined by the age you are on the day of the event.
~ All events are swum as finals, with swimmers awarded Gold/Silver/Bronze medals for placing in each event.
~ At the discretion of the Management Committee, the number of cancelled Club Nights may be taken into consideration regarding the number of swims necessary for Club Championship qualification.
‘Age Champion’ is awarded to the male and female swimmer in each age group, who gains the highest number of points in the age group strokes swum on Club Championship Day.
Points for Age Champion will be allocated on the following basis, in each age group (8 years & over)
~ First place 6 points
~ Second place 3 points
~ Third place 1 point.
In the case of a tie, the Age Champion will be determined by:
~ the swimmers who swam in all 4 main strokes (freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke); plus
~ the individual swimmer’s times will be added together and the fastest accumulated time will be deemed Age Champion.
